M4: Social Accounting Matrices and Estimation Part 4
This module provides an introduction matrix reconciliation methods using the bi-proportionality RAS method. While now out dated, except for resolving very small residual errors, the RAS method is still widely used, including by national accountant. The focus in this module is primarily on the mechanics of RAS, the use of control totals and additional information. A secondary feature of this module is the highlighting the extent to which developers of RAS in the 1960s were addressing the same issues faced today, but with limited computing capacity, and how they sought solutions. As such this module introduces the entropy metric used in the next two modules.
This module assumes you have access the MS Excel and subsequent modules will use GAMS with GAMS Studio as the editor.
